The Pool Players of the Brooke (PPB) would like to thank MOD Pizza for sponsoring this team event. The PPB also thanks SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie and friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Dominic “The Doctor” Borland PPB’s Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. The SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR)’s Travel Team ventured up to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge on Saturday, July 26. We were competing on four nine-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 08, 2023. The PPB team was made up of four, two-player teams and SBR also had four, two=player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Rich “Dead Eye” Adinolfi/Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Rich “Dead Eye” Adinolfi/Dave Parker, Fred “The Baker” Dianda/Randy “Nice Try” Smith, Phelps “Montana” L’Hommidieu/Gary “One Rail” Barlow, and Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar/Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg. Our opponent’s teams from SBR were Karl Knight/Jim Mabbott, Robert Blackburn/Keith Vincent, Jim Kauffman/Kurt Warner, and Bruce Keller/Tim Connolly.
The format was simple and interesting. Each of our teams would play each of their teams three games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match.
The first round ended with the score tied at 6 to 6. The second round went to SBR with a score of 8 to 4 so, the score after two rounds was SBR ahead of the PPB by a score of 14 to 10. The third round was a repeat of the first round with a score of 6 to 6. Now, after the third round SBR was ahead by 20 to 16 over the PPB. The PPB went into the final round down by four points and would have to win 8 games out of the 12 available in Round 4 to keep possession of the Traveling Bronze Plaque. SBR prevented the PPB from getting the necessary eight points by winning the last round by a score of 7 to 5. This put the final score at SBR 27 and the PPB 21.
Again, we had a chance to play for the Traveling Bronze Plaque that will travel back up Oracle Road to SaddleBrooke Ranch for mounting on the SBR’s wall. This event was a continuation of a friendly but fierce rivalry. SaddleBrooke is proud of their team and they thank SBR for being such gracious guests. Our PPB’s Travel Team joined the SBR Team at the RoadRunner Grill for lunch after the 8-Ball Challenge.
