Officers at the Nogales Port of Entry seized nearly a ton of marijuana in a tractor-trailer rig Saturday.
The driver of the rig, Joel Tautimez-Felix, 43, of Nogales, Sonora, was arrested, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection.
The rig was attempting to cross at the Mariposa Commercial Facility when a drug dog alerted to the vehicle. Officers found the bundled marijuana — 1,992 pounds — hidden in the roof of the trailer.
The load contained 212 packages of marijuana, CBP said. Street value for the drugs was about $1 million.
The drugs, produce in the trailer and rig were seized. The driver was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
