Brace yourselves.
A wave of excessive heat is expected to hit the Tucson valley by Friday and continue with triple-digit temperatures through the weekend.
A strong ridge of high pressure will enter the area and is forecast to bring 107-degree heat on Friday, and a high of 110 on Saturday and 109 on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson. Those Saturday and Sunday highs would tie or set records for the dates.
“We have been cooler and will experience a drastic change of about 10 degrees” compared to Wednesday’s high of 97, said weather service meteorologist Mic Sherwood. “This will be a quick shot up,” he added. Tucson hasn’t officially hit 100 yet this year but is expected to on Thursday, June 2.
Residents are urged to be careful outdoors and to stay hydrated. Safety tips from the weather service include staying inside a cool ventilated place whenever possible and restricting outdoor activities. When outdoors, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks. Also, check often on the young, elderly and those with health conditions.
