Here is a list of the winningest coaches in NBA history. Five-time NBA champion Popovich clocked an NBA record of 1,390 wins during his time as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs from 1996 to 2025. Three-time Coach of the Year Don Nelson registered 1,335 victories across stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks. Lenny Wilkens, who led the Seattle Supersonics to a title in 1979, recorded 1,332 wins across an impressive 36-year coaching career. Jerry Sloan became the first coach to notch 1,000 wins with one franchise when he accomplished the feat with the Utah Jazz before finishing with 1,221 victories.
