UA coach Sean Miller held a friendly conversation Friday along the sidelines of Court 1 at the Riverview Park Activities Center with Lorenzo Romar, who stopped over as UA’s associate head coach in 2017-18 in between head coaching stints at Washington and Pepperdine.

They’ll enjoy a Thanksgiving “dinner” together later, under much more competitive circumstances next season.

The Wooden Legacy event bracketed Pepperdine and Arizona to face each other in its first round on Nov. 28 at 9 p.m., with the game scheduled to air on ESPN2. The Wildcats will then face either UCF or Penn the next day. 

Arizona will finish Dec. 1 against a team from the other side of the bracket, which includes Providence, Long Beach State, Wake Forest or the College of Charleston.

Five-star guard Jalen Green didn’t touch the ball too often over the first three quarters of Team Why Not’s game with the Indy Heat late Thursday, scoring just seven points.

He finished with 27 but it was too late, with Team Why Not losing 90-72 while shooting just 40% as a team.

“I feel like when I have the ball in my hands I can score,” Green said. “They didn’t put the ball in my hands a lot and I didn’t get the opportunity to do that and we took an L.”

Green and Team Why Not rebounded with a more efficient attack on Friday, beating Vegas Elite 89-78 with Green (13 points) and five other players scoring in double figures. Team Why Not shot 50% overall.

Green, rated No. 3 overall in the class of 2020 by both 247Sports.com and ESPN, has been a recruiting target of the Wildcats and just about everybody else. 

There have been some questions, however, about whether Green will even attend college. Green has said in the past that he would jump straight to the NBA if allowed. For now, though, he — and other high school players — don’t have that option.

“Whatever the best option is for me,” Green said. “Right now, I’m going to college.”

A camera crew from Heart and Hustle Productions has literally put a camera in the faces of Green and good friend Josh Christopher every step of the way during the Peach Jam.

The company is planning to air a documentary on Fox Sports in the summer of 2020, after both players finish their high school careers.

Over two hours before LeBron James’ son, Bronny, was scheduled to play a U15 game for Strive for Greatness, some 150 people were already in line to get in.

As the line quickly started to approach the 200-odd capacity of the gym, a security guard wasn’t optimistic.

“Half of them won’t get in,” he said.

Arizona jumped in relatively late for DJ Steward, offering the four-star Chicago guard a scholarship last month. Steward said he’s definitely interested in visiting UA.

“They’re recruiting me hard,” Steward said. “Coach Miller is recruiting me hard and he said I can come in and score right away, and they’re prioritizing me a lot.”

Steward said he’s still wide open in his recruitment, but is interested in UA because “it is a great school with high-level competition and is just a successful program.”
