FC Tucson and Pima County announced plans today for a 2,000-seat stadium to be built at Kino Sports Complex North.
The facility, which will have a grandstand that will seat 1,600-1,800 fans, was designed by Swaim Associates Architects, a local company. Construction is set to be completed by October.
The stadium is part of a $2.8 million investment by the county. It will include improvements to other fields on the north side of Ajo Way and to Kino Stadium, said county administrator Chuck Huckelberry.
The project will add a sixth soccer field to Kino North, a sprawl of fields located across Ajo from Kino Stadium.Â
FC Tucson, the city's USL Premier Development League franchise, will play this season Field No. 5 during construction. The new stadium should be completed in time for the 2014 Major League Soccer spring training season.
