GREER — Piles of burned logs continue smoldering more than 24 hours after a fire destroyed the historic Greer Lodge in eastern Arizona.
The Tuesday fire lit the morning darkness as intense flames chewed through wooden logs.
Lodge owner Doug Sandahl credits the local fire department with keeping the flames away from nearby cabins.
Meanwhile, KTVK-TV reports the Greer Fire Department and the Apache County Sheriff’s Department have requested assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as they investigate the fire.
The Greer Lodge was established in 1948. It sits on the Little Colorado River in the White Mountains and has been a popular getaway for decades.
