This continues a countdown to the July 27 start of the Olympics with Southern Arizona moments and figures from previous Games.
Lacey Nymeyer-John
• Olympics: 2008, Beijing
• Local connection: A Tucson native who attended Mountain View High School and the UA.
• Feat: Nymeyer-John was part of the 4x100 freestyle team that won the silver medal, finishing just 0.57 of a second behind first-place Netherlands. She also competed in the 100 freestyle, placing 12th. The U.S. won 31 medals - 11 more than second-place Australia.
• Current: Nymeyer-John works as the aquatics coordinator for UA Campus Recreation. She oversaw a major renovation of the student recreation center's pool, which was completed in February 2011.
