A fire has destroyed the historic Greer Lodge in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. The fire started around 4:30 a.m.
Resort reservation manager Tracy Marasco tells The Associated Press the fire was intense as flames burned old logs and wood used to create the lodge.
Huge flames shot into the air as old timbers burned. The lodge was still smoldering hours later.
The Greer Lodge was built in 1948 and contained 10 rooms and a restaurant and has been a popular getaway spot.
There's no word yet on what caused the Tuesday morning fire.
