Unlike ballet dancing or professional football, acting is a career that many can continue to pursue until their dying day. Some actors, like Betty White, star in projects well into their nineties.
Despite the longevity of the profession, however, some film actors know when to call it quits. PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, identified the most famous actors who have retired from film.
To determine which actors and actresses have said their goodbyes to the silver screen, PrettyFamous used data from Gracenote, IMDb and Wikipedia to find actors who have not been in a film in the past five years (since 2011). Many of these stars continue to act in TV shows or chose to take up roles behind the scenes, such as producing, directing or writing. The PrettyFamous team didn't include actors with five or fewer movie credits, as well as actors who have been inactive for years but have a future film in production.
The actors are then ranked by their Actor Score. This is determined by calculating and weighting the number of Wikipedia page views an actor has received in the past 30 days, the number of awards he or she been nominated for and the IMDb votes for his or her films and TV shows. PrettyFamous started with the actor with the lowest Actor Score, counting down to the most famous of the bunch.
Note: Although these actors haven't been in films in a while, there's always a chance that some (especially the younger actors) could return to the silver screen.
