Nolan Ferguson, 5, gets an up-close view Friday of a meerkat through the viewing glass at the new meerkats exhibit at the Reid Park Zoo. The new “mob,” or group, of meerkats appeared last week after a reader survey indicated the critters were ones visitors most wanted to see.
Several businesses, including Tuff Shed, Arizona Trucking & Materials, A Thru Z Consulting and Cemrock supported the new zoo exhibit, according to press materials.
A type of mongoose known for standing on their rear legs, meerkats became TV celebrities when “Meerkat Manor,” a British documentary/drama made by Animal Planet that took a soap-opera approach to the lives of the animals, aired from 2005-2008.
