The Biosphere 2 ocean simulates a Caribbean reef. Its surface area is 100 feet by 60 feet.
It is one of six areas, or "biomes," in the 3.14-acre facility, whose 6,500 windows contain 7.2 million cubic feet.
The other biomes are savanna, tropical rain forest, thorn scrub, marsh and desert.
