Cricket Wireless is installing new antennas on the Four Points by Sheraton Tucson University Plaza hotel, 1900 E. Speedway, as part of a major system upgrade.
Broken Arrow Communications has been installing the Cricket antennas throughout Tucson since July 5 and hopes to update about 70 sites by the end of the month, according to Broken Arrow's Robert Carlson.
Cricket's work is part of a flurry of wireless upgrades in Tucson this year.
In April, Verizon Wireless said it had upgraded and completed integrating its local 3G (third-generation) network with that of Alltel, which it acquired in January 2009. In January, AT&T announced it had installed 10 new 3G wireless sites, among 50 the company installed since last year in Tucson to help improve coverage.
