A former Macy's store at Tucson Mall will be demolished next week to make way for yet-to-be-named new tenants, the mall's management announced Monday.
The 135,000-square-foot building, on the southeastern side of the mall, will come down on Monday, according to a press release from mall owner General Growth Properties.
General Growth spokeswoman Tami Ivy said plans are in the works for redeveloping the space, and the mall is in negotiations with prospective tenants, which she declined to identify.
"Our plans for this area would be to introduce new retailers and restaurants that aren't already here," she said.
Ivy said plans are expected to be approved by the end of the year, and new tenants might be announced early next year.
The majority of demolition work will take place behind a barricade, and the rest of the mall will remain open as usual, the press release said.
