SAN DIEGO — A woman who was found dead at the historic Spreckels mansion near San Diego was discovered nude, hanging from a balcony with her hands tied behind her back and her feet bound, authorities say.
Investigators have not determined if 32-year-old Rebecca Nalepa’s death was a homicide and have not ruled out suicide, San Diego County sheriff’s Capt. Tim Curran said Thursday. He declined to comment on the evidence.
Nalepa was the girlfriend of homeowner Jonah Shacknai, chairman and chief executive of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp.
Curran says Shacknai’s brother, Adam, called 911 Wednesday morning to report that the woman appeared to be dead. The brother was staying in a guesthouse at the Coronado mansion. Jonah Shacknai was not at home.
