Tucson office-supply stores are taking another hit, as Staples prepares to close its three stores here on Feb. 28.
The company says the closures are due to more consumers shifting to online shopping.
“We continually evaluate our store performance to ensure we’re operating business in the best way,” said Carrie McElwee, spokeswoman for Staples, in an email. “As customers shift online, we are taking aggressive action to right-size our retail footprint.”
In March, the company announced it would close 225 stores in North America by the end of 2015, in an effort to save $500 million annually.
The three area stores are at 2930 N. Campbell Ave., 6230 E. Broadway and 3840 W. River Road.
