Richelle Litteer has been named vice president of development for the Kozolchyk National Law Center.
Litteer’s primary responsibility is to cultivate existing relationships and develop new relationships to raise funds to support the mission of the center and grow its potential reach.
Litteer has been working as a top–level marketing, sales and fundraising professional for local, regional and national corporations. Most recently, she was the primary fundraiser for Diamond Children’s Hospital in Tucson.
The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain names manager
Hotel executive Steven Szenasi has been named general manager of the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain.
Szenasi oversees all aspects of the 253-room, 850-acre property.
Szenasi previously served as director of operations, a title that he has held at the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain since 2016.
Prior to coming to Tucson, Szenasi spent six years in senior leadership for the Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel in California, serving as director of meetings and special events and director of sales, catering, with responsibility for the largest banquet budget and operation within the Ritz-Carlton Hotel company.

Dr. Michele Boyce Ley specializes in surgical care for breast cancer patients, including minimally invasive biopsies, nipple-sparing mastectomies and treatment of high-risk patients.
Ley has many years of education, training and experience focusing on breast disease and surgery, providing her with an understanding of breast cancer biology, genetics and advanced oncoplastic surgical techniques and breast preservation procedures.
She has practiced in the Tucson community since 2006.
Ley attended medical school at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and completed her general surgical residency at the University of Arizona.
Her breast surgical oncology fellowship was served at the University of California-San Francisco’s Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center. She is board certified in general surgery and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Breast Surgery.

Gastélum is new Las Artes program manager
Patricia Gastélum has been named as program manager at Las Artes Arts and Education Center, which combines structured coursework with community art projects while preparing students to earn their General Education Diploma.
Gastélum comes to the job from the business-services team of Pima County’s Community Services, Employment and Training Department, which oversees Las Artes.
In her previous role, Gastélum helped employers manage layoffs or downsizing efforts. She also assisted displaced workers with everything from filing for unemployment insurance to polishing résumés to preparing them for new careers.
Hahn named UA dean of engineering
David W. Hahn, an engineer with more than two decades experience in government, national laboratories and higher education, has been named dean of the University of Arizona College of Engineering.
Hahn is a mechanical engineer specializing in thermal sciences and laser-based diagnostics, including renewable energy, biophotonics and general laser-material interactions. Hahn joins the UA after a 20-year career at the University of Florida, where he served as chair of the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering since 2011.
Hahn has been an affiliate professor in the UF department of materials science and engineering since 2013, and in 2015 was named an affiliate faculty member in the UF Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies and Research. Prior to becoming department chair, he served as the associate chair for academics for three years.

Rulney named UA senior VP, chief financial officer
Lisa Rulney has been selected to serve as senior vice president of business affairs and chief financial officer for the University of Arizona.
Rulney, who was selected following a national search, had been serving as interim CFO since October.
As CFO, Rulney is tasked with providing leadership and managerial oversight to a division that includes Arizona Public Media; Arizona Student Unions; facilities management; financial services; human resources; parking and transportation services; planning, design and construction; procurement and contracting services; risk management; UA BookStores; and the UA Police Department. She also will oversee the offices that handle internal auditing, planning and budgeting, and sustainability.
Prior to being named interim CFO, Rulney was vice president of financial services, responsible for accounts payable, capital finance, compliance, financial management, payroll, tax services, the bursar’s office, investments, procurement and contracting, and records and archives management.
Rulney also has served as assistant dean for finance and administration for the colleges of Engineering and Education.

Scheeren previously served as senior advisor research and development for Bayer AG and has had a 36-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, having held positions domestically and internationally in drug development and regulatory approval on three continents.
Scheeren joined Bayer Pharmaceuticals as senior vice president, head of global regulatory affairs, in 2004, responsible for development in the United States. In 2009, he became site head US in Montville, NJ. Thompson will address the full spectrum of problems patients bring to their family medicine physician or nurse practitioner. This includes treatment of conditions often associated with psychology, such as transient stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol misuse and anger. Thompson specializes in identifying and treating maladaptive health behaviors that frequently result in obesity, physical inactivity, poor medication adherence or poor dietary adherence.

Thomas J. McKinney was named the CEO of Interfaith Community Services.

McKinney has over 35 years of experience in nonprofit organizations, initiating strategic business plans and overseeing implementation, establishing community partnerships, and fostering program development for several organizations including 10 years as president and CEO for Make-A-Wish Minnesota.

UA’s Schulz is inaugural VP for the arts
Andrew Schulz, dean of the College of Fine Arts, was named the inaugural vice president for the arts.
Under this new position, Schulz oversees the College of Fine Arts academic units: the schools of dance, art, music, and theatre, film and television. He also oversees museums and arts presenting units, including the Center for Creative Photography, the UA Museum of Art, UA Presents, the Hanson Film Institute and the College of Fine Arts in Schools program.
In addition, Schulz manages administrative units within the College of Fine Arts that include marketing, communications and philanthropy. A key new initiative will be the creation of an office for arts engagement and partnerships that will foster collaboration and integration on and off campus.

The Golder Ranch Fire District has selected Capt. Adam Jarrold as their public information officer and public educator.
Jarrold has served the Golder Ranch Fire District for 15 years. In that time he has worked in the role of firefighter/paramedic, station captain and most recently, emergency medical services captain.
In this new role, Jarrold will primarily handle media inquiries related to incidents and will also help engage area schools and community groups to identify opportunities for education related to fire and injury prevention.

Chest surgeon Khalpey joins Northwest Healthcare
Northwest Healthcare recently welcomed cardiothoracic surgeon Zain Khalpey.
Dr. Khalpey has served the Tucson community since 2012, building a reputation for his work using artificial intelligence, regenerative medicine, and precision medicine techniques to impact heart patients throughout the region.
He has a special interest in sudden cardiac death, robotic mitral valve repair, total artificial hearts, and using short- and long-term devices in shock and heart failure patients.
Khalpey completed medical school at Guy’s, Kings & St Thomas Hospital, London School of Medicine and continued his training in the U.S., with a residency and fellowship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
This was followed by a super-fellowship in mechanical circulatory support devices for advanced heart failure at Columbia University’s New York Presbyterian Hospital.
He completed a Ph.D. in cardiothoracic surgery, bioenergetics and cardiac transplantation through the Imperial College UK with work conducted at the University of Gdansk in Poland, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and Harvard University.
Velasco is named associate at Mesch Clark Rothschild
Bernardo Velasco was named an associate of the Mesch Clark Rothschild law firm.
Before joining Mesch Clark Rothschild, Velasco clerked with Peter J. Eckerstrom, chief judge of the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division Two. He is a part of the construction, appellate and civil litigation sections at the firm.
Before returning to Tucson in 2014, Velasco served as an associate pastor in Northern California. He was also a civil engineering assistant with the Pima County Department of Environmental Quality.
Prosecutor Green will head Pima’s major crimes bureau
Nicol Green was appointed to serve as the major crimes bureau chief for the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
Green has been a career prosecutor, first with the Cochise County Attorney’s Office, then since 2001 with the Pima County Attorney’s Office.
During her career in the Pima County Attorney’s Office, she has prosecuted numerous homicides, aggravated assaults, sexual offenses, child abuse offenses, domestic violence offenses, armed robberies and fugitive extraditions.
Green has also supervised the cold-case and domestic-violence units.
Palmer is new vice president at ABI Multifamily brokerage
Desiree Palmer has come on board as vice president for the Tucson regional office of ABI Multifamily brokerage and advisory services firm.
Palmer recently moved to Tucson from Huntsville, Ala., where she specialized in multifamily sales in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

New leader named for UA Tech Parks
Carol Stewart, a long-standing authority on research parks, has been appointed to lead the UA Tech Parks.
In her role as associate vice president for Tech Parks Arizona, Stewart will be charged with overseeing the UA Tech Park at Rita Road, developing the UA Tech Park at The Bridges and elevating the Arizona Center for Innovation, the business incubator at the Rita Road park.
Stewart’s expertise in university research parks spans decades and nations. She has more than 20 years of experience working with research parks, technology commercialization, business incubation, governmental relations and business development.
Previously, Stewart served as CEO of the Association of University Research Parks, which represents 200 research parks worldwide. In this role, she collaborated with leaders to build and grow university-related research parks through education, unification and collaboration.
In her new role, Stewart will continue to advance the mission of the Association of University Research Parks by fostering innovation, commercialization and economic growth in a global economy through university, industry and government partnerships for the benefit of the UA.

Francis began her mortgage career with Long Mortgage in 2009 and is returning after working for a different company. Before becoming a mortgage consultant Francis was a licensed real estate agent.

Pridgett of Jewish Federation is promoted to database coordinator
Kiara Pridgett is the new database coordinator at the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.
Pridgett joined JFSA in 2017 as a part-time administrative assistant for the finance and campaign departments, quickly becoming a full-time staffer. This spring, she joined the internal database conversion team and was promoted to this new position.
Pridgett previously worked as a client relationship specialist and legal assistant/receptionist.
Mendez joins UA Family Medicine
Dr. Ana Mendez has joined the University of Arizona Department of Family and Community Medicine and Banner-University Medicine.
Assistant professor Mendez will provide outpatient care to patients of all ages. She completed her medical degree at the University of Monterrey (Mexico) and completed her family medicine residency at the UA College of Medicine-Tucson. She also completed a master’s of public health degree at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, with a concentration in international health and development.
Krauser joins UA Family Medicine
Dr. Ashley Krauser has joined the University of Arizona Department of Family and Community Medicine and Banner-University Medicine.
Clinical assistant professor Krauser will provide family medicine care to patients of all ages. She completed her medical degree at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and her family medicine residency at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Michigan.

County names Palacios to head community services department
Arnold Palacios was named director of the Pima County Community Services, Employment and Training Department.
Palacios oversees the activities of the department’s two major divisions: workforce development and the Community Action Agency, which provides basic assistance to low-income families and single adults.
He also maintains close partnerships with county departments, contracted agencies, community nonprofits and other private entities involved with workforce development, economic development and community support services.
As dean, Funk will take reins at UA’s proposed veterinary college
Julie Funk is joining the University of Arizona as dean of the proposed College of Veterinary Medicine.
Her duties will include directing the structure and implementation of curriculum and training programs; developing research and outreach missions that incorporate emerging trends and needs in veterinary education, research and practice; providing fiscal leadership and heading fundraising and development efforts; and participating in faculty and administrative recruitment.
Funk joins the UA from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
