A big chunk of vacant retail space on Tucson’s east side, empty for about two years, has new tenants.
Circus Furniture and Platinum Fitness will take over the 87,400 square-foot building at 9559 E. Golf Links Road that’s been vacant since its previous tenant, American Home Furniture, closed the store after filing for bankruptcy late in 2008.
Circus Furniture will open its second location in the big box store, taking over 62,400 square feet. Platinum Fitness, an independent gym, moved into 25,000 square feet in early May. The store was divided to accomodate the new tenants.
Filling such a large space has been something of a challenge, said Greg Furrier, a principal with Picor Commercial Real Estate Services, who is the broker for the property.
“There’s just not that many choices for an 87,000-square-foot business. Any of those big spaces are tricky because the smaller the tenant, the more tenants there are. Bigger spaces, historically, have always been tougher to fill,” Furrier said.
