Berky’s Bar, at 5769 E. Speedway near North Craycroft Road, will reopen as a sports bar under new ownership.
Documents filed with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control show Richard McClelland as the new owner.
Ward 6 City Councilman Steve Kozachik said the new owner has met with surrounding neighbors and agreed to take steps to reduce noise. Residents previously complained about noise when it was a "biker bar," the councilman said.
The liquor license for the sports bar is pending. Kozachik said the city recommended its approval. “It’s a positive step in the area,” he said.
The liquor license application shows the new bar’s name as Perky’s, but Kozachik said that was a temporary choice to move forward in the process.
