Tucson-based Raytheon Missile Systems has been awarded an $85.5 million Air Force contract for procurement of one of its smallest production missiles.
The contract calls for Raytheon to provide Griffin A and B Block II/III missiles, test and support equipment and engineering support, the Pentagon said in a contract notice.
The Griffin is 43 inches long and weighs 33 pounds, with a 13-pound warhead. The missile, which can be adapted to various aircraft and has been tested as a weapon for small coastal vessels, uses GPS-aided inertial guidance and a semi-active laser seeker for pinpoint accuracy.
