E-Verify's Self Check online service is now available in Spanish as well as English in 16 additional states, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Tuesday.
Self Check, which allows workers to check their own employment eligibility status at no charge, has been available in Spanish since March in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Mississippi, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Tuesday's announcement expands it to California, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Washington. The service is expected to be available nationwide in Spanish by next spring.
Employers use E-Verify to determine employees' eligibility to work in the United States through information reported in the employee's Form I-9.
