Tucson-based Solon Corp. has installed a 10-kilowatt pilot project for its new commercial rooftop photovoltaic system at the University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2 near Oracle.
Installed on the roof of the Biosphere 2’s conference center, the installation of the modular SOLquick solar panels will help power the facility and form the basis for a solar learning center.
Solon plans to monitor the system for a year, to continue training and research, and to ensure all design functions are met, the company said Tuesday.
The lightweight SOLquick panels are shipped to the work site with the PV laminate and racking as one and require no tools, cutting installation time by more than 85 percent, Solon said.
