The Arizona Daily Star laid off five full-time newsroom employees and one part-time newsroom worker Tuesday.
Nine full-time newsroom employees took buyouts last week.
The involuntary layoffs are the first since 11 newsroom employees were laid off in December 2007.
"We are no different than any business in that we match our staff size to our available resources. In this terrible economy, we are challenged. At the same time, as we told our readers yesterday, we are even more committed to publishing the highest quality local news and information. And we'll continue to be both good stewards of our resources and over-achievers," Arizona Daily Star Publisher John M. Humenik said Tuesday.
