Qwest on Wednesday repaired a phone outage that began Tuesday night in the Catalina area and affected about 450 phone lines.
Vandals who damaged a Qwest pedestal — a box where technicians can access phone lines — caused the disruption, which meant affected customers couldn't make emergency 911 calls, said Jeff Mirasola, a Qwest spokesman.
Mirasola said someone knocked over a pedestal located in a remote area near the 14000 stretch of North Lago del Oro Parkway, about 20 miles north of Tucson, got it open and began cutting cables.
