Tucson Electric Power Co. has a new phone number for people to call if they're working near TEP's overhead lines.
Anyone who plans on working within 15 feet of overhead power lines is required by state law to first contact TEP at 917-2617. TEP says people should keep this distance in mind when preparing to install antennas or satellite dishes, trim trees, work on scaffolding or use cranes at construction sites.
A TEP worker, at the resident's expense, will ensure the work near the power line can proceed safely.
Arizona Blue Stake previously handled the calls, but TEP set up the new line so it can deal directly with the requests.
Anyone doing work that requires digging should continue to call Arizona Blue Stake at 811 or 1-800-STAKE-IT at least two working days before the project to give TEP and other utilities a chance to mark the location of power lines and other facilities. That service, also required by state law, is free.
