Plans to build a biodiesel refinery near Coolidge this year are in the works for PetroSun BioFuels Refining, a subsidiary of Scottsdale-based PetroSun Inc.
The company entered a joint venture to construct and operate the refinery, which will use oil derived from algae as its feedstock, according to a press release.
The company will also operate the algae farm needed for the oil production, though the farm's location has not yet been determined said spokesman Jim LeCrone.
The refinery is set to have an annual production capacity of 30 million gallons of 100 percent renewable biodiesel.
Construction is set to begin this summer. Both the refinery and algae farm will generate all of the electricity and heat needed to operate and will not consume fossil fuels, PetroSun said.
