Five Guys Burgers and Fries is a hit in Tucson.
The company says its first restaurant in the Old Pueblo, which opened on Sept. 7, made more money in its opening week than any other Five Guys restaurant.
The restaurant's sales were 12 percent higher than the store’s previous record (that was shared by restaurants in several states).
"We had a number of restaurants in Arizona and California that all opened to similar sales," says Five Guys spokeswoman Molly Catalano.
Catalano says Tucson’s Five Guys, at 2802 N. Campbell Ave., sold 10,521 sandwiches — burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheeses and veggie sandwiches — in its first week.
The company is planning a second Tucson restaurant before the end of the year. It will open at 5566 E. Broadway, near an OfficeMax and the new BJ's Brewhouse.
