Photos: World War I, a century later
In June of 1914, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria started a conflict that engulfed Europe and spread to Asia Minor, Africa and beyond. The "War to End All Wars" killed some 9 million combatants and set the stage for an even deadlier conflict — World War II.
