Perhaps you’ve heard about “A Player’s Program.”
It has become the mantra of Arizona basketball. And we get it.
The 69 NBA draft picks.
The 30 conference championships, 25 All-Americans, 16 Sweet 16s, 10 Elite Eights.
Derrick Williams dunking the ball against Duke.
The four Final Fours.
The one national championship.
Dramatic music. Flash of Arizona legends: Steve Kerr, Lute Olson, etc.
Then Sean Miller. “This is ... (pause for effect) ... Arizona!” he says. Loud noises.
Oops, sorry, that’s the intro video. Really gets you going though, doesn’t it?
Anyway, the phrase “A Player’s Program” has become Arizona’s identity, particularly on social media. Almost to the point where it’s no longer called “Arizona Basketball.” At least not on Twitter.
When the account tweets a score, it’s “#APlayersProgram 70, Some Other School 59.” That’s not a direct quote/tweet, or even a real score, but you get the point.
Twitter has become a big part of Arizona basketball, and keeping with that theme, we decided to give you the 20 best follows on Twitter this basketball season, in no particular order.
This list doesn’t include the Star staff you need to follow: columnist Greg Hansen (@ghansen711), reporters Bruce Pascoe (@BrucePascoe) and Jon Gold (@TheCoolSub), photographers Kelly Presnell (@KellyPresnell), Mike Christy (@wildcatphotog) and Mamta Popat (@MamtaPopat). Plus, of course, yours truly — @ZackBlatt.
