Photos: Wacky celebrity baby names

  • Jun 23, 2013
  • Jun 23, 2013 Updated Feb 12, 2014

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian joined the group of celebrity parents who went outside the box with baby names when Kim gave birth to North West, a girl, on June 15. Here are some of the more flamboyant and unorthodox names you'll find in the world of stars.

Wacky celebrity baby names

Wacky celebrity baby names

Wacky name: North West (girl)

Parents: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

Our take: Hardy, har, har, har, Kimye. You just trolled Earth with your firstborn.

Wacky names: Moon Unit (girl), Dweezil (boy), Ahmet (boy) and Diva Thin Muffin (girl)

Parent: Musician Frank Zappa.

Our take: Shown here in 1967, Frank Zappa was the original king of crazy baby names.

Jerry Schatzberg

Wacky names: Ocean (boy), Sonnet (girl) and True (girl)

Parent: Actor Forest Whitaker.

Our take: According to People Magazine, Whitaker wanted his children to "kind of touch their destiny by their names". We'll leave the interpretation to you readers.

Francois Mori

Wacky names: Kingston and Zuma Nesta Rock (both boys)

Parents: Rockers Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.

Our take: We don't know what the name of the big blue furry thing is, and we are pretty sure it's not part of the family - but we will guarantee its name can't be as strange as these kids'.

Wacky name: Apple (girl)

Parents: Actress Gwyneth Paltrow (above) and rocker Chris Martin (Coldplay).

Our take: Paltrow explained the name to Oprah: "It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me - you know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical - and I just thought it sounded so lovely and É clean! And I just thought, 'Perfect!'." And we'll buy that explanation. Sounds very Gwyneth.

SUSAN GOLDMAN

Wacky name: Bronx Mowgli (boy)

Parents: Rocker Pete Wentz and singer Ashlee Simpson, who are no longer together.

Our take: Not among our favorites of the silly names.

Evan Agostini

Wacky name: Buddy Bear (boy)

Parent: British chef and TV personality Jamie Oliver, whose food shows appear in over 40 countries.

Our take: This one would be fine as a nickname for a toddler, but it sounds like Jamie doesn't want this son to ever grow up.

Wacky name: Jermajesty (boy)

Parent: Jermaine Jackson (center), brother of Michael Jackson.

Our take: Bombastic, to say the least. Seems the strange naming runs in the family.

Matt Sayles

Wacky name: Pirate (boy)

Parent: Rock band Korn frontman Jonathan Davis.

Our take: This one makes a roundabout kind of sense, if you consider Korn's music. No, seriously - stay with us here. Just listen to a Korn album, you'll find tons of "ARRRRRRRRRR" throughout.

Wacky Names: Prince (boy, far left), Prince Michael II "Blanket" (boy), Paris

Parent: The King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson.

Our take: Prince and Paris aren't too strange, but sticking poor Prince Michael II with the nickname "Blanket" is just mean. I guess that's the kind of decision one might make after not sleeping for as many as 60 consecutive days. Rest in peace, Michael.

Joel Ryan

Wacky name: Kal-El (boy)

Parent: Actor Nicolas Cage.

Our take: If you're going to name your boy after a superhero, Superman is definitely the way to go. He's invincible, shoots lasers with his eyes, flies, can alter time and has that super-awesome freeze breath. You're crazy, Nic Cage, but in a good way.

Wacky names: Zolten (boy) and Moxie CrimeFighter (girl)

Parent: Magician Penn Jillette (at left).

Our take: The lesson here is that if you're going to go weird with your kids' names, at least make them rough and tough.

Dan Steinberg

Wacky name: Tu Morrow (girl)

Parent: Actor Rob Morrow of hit 1990s TV show Northern Exposure.

Our take: Kimye couldn't have gotten their idea from this guy, right? Right?

Chris Pizzello

Wacky names: Rocket, Racer and Rogue (all boys)

Parent: Director, producer and all-around movie-making maven Robert Rodriguez.

Our take: He wisely chose the Penn Jillette path - they may be strange names, but who is going to pick a fight with a Rocket, Racer or Rogue?

Jordan Strauss

Wacky name: Denim and Diezel (sons)

Parent: Singer Toni Braxton.

Our take: More tough-guy names for the boys. If we're going to approve the strange names, it'll be those in that vein.
