Today's six-pack: The sexiest man and the longest bus ride

  • Nov 19, 2014
  • Nov 19, 2014 Updated Nov 19, 2014

People are talking about People's pick and the basketball team that was stranded in a Buffalo snowstorm.

Meet the 'Sexiest Man Alive' - at least according to People

People magazine has named Chris Hemsworth the "Sexiest Man Alive" of 2014, cheering the Australian actor's rise as hammer-wielding, bone fide hunk in the "Thor" films.

Hemsworth, who also starred as Formula One racer James Hunt in the Ron Howard-directed "Rush" and the "Star Trek" reboots, was unveiled as the winner on Tuesday's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

When asked who he wanted to thank, Hemsworth told Kimmel his parents, "for putting this together."

He joins a list of hunks with the honor, including Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Patrick Swayze, Sean Connery, Ben Affleck, Channing Tatum and Adam Levine. Mel Gibson, another Australian, was the first in 1985.

Stranded by a wall of snow in Buffalo

Stranded on the highway for more than a day, the Niagara women's basketball team is finally making its journey home.

The team was stuck on its bus for nearly 30 hours because of a huge storm that dumped 4 feet of snow around Buffalo and was blamed for at least six deaths.

Niagara was coming back late Monday night from a loss at Pittsburgh when the squad was marooned on the New York State Thruway. Early on Wednesday morning, players at last tweeted photos of a plow starting to clear the road.

A few hours later, state troopers picked them up and brought them to a nearby police station where another bus was waiting to take them back to campus.

Shhh... celebs fight Ebola through their silence

Bono, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman are among celebrities playing the waiting game in a new online campaign calling for a unified response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

In the video posted Wednesday, the stars stare silently into a camera to illustrate that they're still waiting for world leaders to fight Ebola, which has killed more than 5,000 people in the west African countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Other stars appearing in the One Campaign's 2-minute video include Will Ferrell, Thandie Newton, Connie Britton, "The Walking Dead" actress Danai Gurira, Akon, Ellie Goulding and soccer star Per Mertesacker.

Meanwhile, some of the biggest names in pop have joined forces to record a new version of Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in an effort to fight Ebola.

More trouble for Bill Cosby

Comedian Bill Cosby is in even more hot water.

Model and TV host Janice Dickinson added her name to the women who have accused comic Bill Cosby of sexual assault.

In an "Entertainment Tonight" interview that aired Tuesday, Dickinson said that the 1982 incident occurred in Lake Tahoe, California, where he was appearin

Several hours after the interview aired, Netflix said that it was postponing the Nov. 27 premiere of a new Cosby standup special, "Bill Cosby 77." The company's brief statement did not say why or when the show might debut.

Viral video: Attack of an aggressive groundhog

Today's viral video comes courtesy of a New Hampshire couple, which says it was attacked by a vicious groundhog.

“Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed this movement," Gary McGrath said. "I turned around and this furry thing is coming at me. He got close enough so I could just poke him with my toe, and I pushed him back a few feet. He just turned around and came right back, and I gave him a harder kick this time.”

Bob Marley heirs join US firm to launch pot brand

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — A U.S. private equity firm announced Tuesday it has joined the family of late reggae star Bob Marley in hopes of building what it touts as the "world's first global cannabis brand."

Seattle-based Privateer Holdings announced Tuesday it has reached a licensing deal with Marley's heirs to offer marijuana strains, including ones famed in Jamaica, where regulations permit by late 2015. It also plans to sell weed-infused lotions, creams and various accessories.

"My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb," Miami-based Cedella Marley said in a company statement. She's the eldest daughter of the music legend who died of cancer in 1981 and is Jamaica's most iconic figure.
