What do you get a restaurant that's celebrating its 90th birthday?
How about an ice-cold beer?
El Charro Café is celebrating its 90th anniversary by unveiling a signature craft beer brewed by Tucson's own Barrio Brewing Company.
It's one of two special beers Barrio has brewed for Tucson restaurants.
In a press release, the El Charro beer was described as something akin to a Dos Equis amber, "but with an even more drinkable finish."
Barrio Brewing's Dennis Arnold said the El Charro's 1922 Amber Ale has a touch of light chocolate malt that gives the beer a slight caramel taste, according to the press release.
All five Tucson area El Charro Cafés began serving the beer Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Barrio brewed an amber ale for the just-opened Foothills restaurant/bar Fini's Landing. Scott Mencke, who owns Fini's with partner Doug "Fini" Finical, said Barrio's Beached Ale "was on our opening lineup and it's our top seller already." (The pair at one time had considered calling their restaurant Beached Ale.)
