The Tucson Symphony Orchestra will team up with the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center on Monday to introduce Tucson to guzheng player Li Ma.
Li Ma, who will guest with the TSO in concerts Thursday, Friday and Sunday, is one of the guzheng's foremost ambassadors, introducing it to American audiences that have never seen or heard it. The guzheng is a plucked instrument that is part of the zither family.
Monday's interactive event at the Chinese Cultural Center, 1288 W. River Road, includes up-close encounters with the instrument and demonstrations by Li Ma. It runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
