Is your favorite one of the best animated movies of all time?
- Updated
Some of these movies are decidedly adult in nature even though they are animated. Most parents, however, would likely vote for any movie that keeps a 5-year-old active boy sitting still for more than a few minutes.

Animated movies have a special place in American culture. From old Disney classics like "The Jungle Book" to modern greats like "Fantastic Mr. Fox," animated films have left an impression on children and adults alike. In fact, three of the six highest-grossing films in the U.S. in 2016 are animated: "Finding Dory," "The Secret Life of Pets" and "Zootopia."
With two major animated releases coming out in the next couple months — "Trolls" and "Sing" — PrettyFamous, an entertainment research site powered by Graphiq, decided to look back at some of the best animated movies of all time.
To put this list together, PrettyFamous looked at all animated movies with over 20,000 IMDb votes and ranked them on their Smart Rating -- a score out of 100 that takes into account a movie's IMDb rating, Rotten Tomatoes' scores, Gracenote rating, Metacritic score and the inflation-adjusted U.S. box office gross. Ties were broken on inflation-adjusted U.S. box office gross, and movies had to have been released at some point in the U.S.
The films on this list span nearly 80 years, from 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" to 2016's "Finding Dory." While the list is dominated by family-friendly fare, there are also some thoroughly adult films, like "South Park: The Movie" and "Anomalisa." Pixar films are predictably high-performing, occupying seven of the top 10 slots. However, the top prize goes to a non-Pixar film, released over a decade ago.
