2nd Saturdays Downtown, the monthly celebration that's a confluence of free concerts and street performance along Congress Street, kicks off the new year this Saturday night with shows by T/N/T - an AC/DC tribute band - at the Rialto Theatre and the country of Grind at the Fox Tucson Theatre. Both shows run from 7 to 9. Club Congress offers a free Second Saturdays show with Al Perry and Loren Dircks at 7.
And Five Way Street - a classic-rock cover band specializing in Crosby, Stills and Nash tunes - will headline the outdoor stage at Scott Avenue from 8 to 10. Mirror Image, the Arizona Daily Star Battle of the Bands winner in 2008, plays an hour-long set starting at 6:45. Deceptively Innocent opens the Scott Ave stage at 5:30.
Check out 2nd Saturdays' website for more information on stilt walkers, mural painters, specials and more - as well as a map of the whole shebang - at www.2ndsaturdays.com (click on "Event info"). The event largely follows Congress between Toole and Stone avenues.
