Thee Oh Sees want everyone to know something: They do not sound like the B-52's.
The group posted that proclamation last year on its MySpace blog, but is it right?
While Thee Oh Sees dabble in retro garage, its sound is much darker than the ecstatically happy-to-an-almost-creepy-point B-52's. Check out the song "Graveyard Drug Party," for example.
San Francisco's Thee Oh Sees are more minimalist psychedelic, recalling the early work of the Velvet Underground or modern acts like Black Mountain (minus the metal urges.)
So, to anyone who compares Thee Oh Sees with the B-52's: What!?
Thee Oh Sees play Plush on Saturday with The Fresh and Onlys and The Provocative Whites.
The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and is $6.
