Ever notice the sparkle at the bottom of the creek in Sabino Canyon?
Those bits of bling are mica and garnets.Â
Sabino Canyon volunteer naturalists will show you and the kiddos how to pan for garnets 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 1 through April, if the weather and water cooperate. (They're skipping, Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.)
Instruction and equipment is provided, but you'll need to bring lunch and leave Fido at home.
Sabino Canyon Recreation Area is at 5900 N. Sabino Canyon Road. Take Tanque Verde Road east and turn north on Sabino Canyon Road and the recreation is about 4 miles up the road.
