The Franciscans began work on the mission at Tumacacori in 1800, but the bell tower was never finished. President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Tumacácori National Monument on 10 acres of land relinquished by local homesteader Carmen Mendez. Visitors enter into the church that was in 1756 at Tumacacori National Historic Park is located at 1891 East Frontage Road Tumacacori, Ariz. on Thursday July 21, 2016. Inside people either stood or knelt during services, there were never any pews.

Niches in the church at the mission in Tumacacori held specific saints for people to pray too. The church was built in 1756 and still stands at Tumacacori National Historic Park, located at 1891 East Frontage Road Tumacacori, Ariz. After the church was abandoned in 1848, the roof was removed and the timber was reused. The current roof was placed in 1921.

The members of Por Los Caminos de Kino embark on horseback for the 26th Kino Cabalgata on Dec. 27, 2013, at the Tumacacori National Historical Park. The ride, featuring 30 riders from Arizona and Sonora, commemorates Father Kino's 75-mile, 24-hour ride on horseback from Tumacacori to San Ignacio to save an innocent man's life.
