The 2016 Tucson Jazz Festival

The second annual Tucson Jazz Festival kicks off this Thursday and runs till Sunday, Jan. 24. Take a look at this year's lineup:

  • Tucson Jazz Institute Ellington band with Jimmy Heath, 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, Fox Tucson, 17 W. Congress, $29-$49.
  • Snarky Puppy, 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, Rialto Theatre, 318 E. Congress, $39-$49.
  • Risky Rhythm Revue, 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, Rialto, $10.
  • Byron Stripling with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, Tucson Music Hall, 260 S. Church St., $30-$78.
  • Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour, 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd., $25-$55.
  • Arthur Vint & Associates, 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St., $34-$49.
  • MLK Day Downtown Jazz Fiesta, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, on North Fifth Avenue between Toole Ave. and Broadway, free.
  • Haboob (formerly Jazz Telephone), 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, Club Congress, free.
  • Jon Weber and UA Jazz Ensemble, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, Crowder Hall in the UA Fine Arts Complex, at North Park Avenue and East Speedway, $24-$49.
  • Poncho Sanchez, 7 p.m., next Thursday, Jan. 21, Fox Tucson, $29-$49.

Tickets: $26 in advance at ticketfly.com, $28 at the door. Each ticket purchased includes one free download of Ritter’s album “Sermon On the Rocks,” which he released in October.

When: Various times, Friday, Jan. 16-Sunday, Jan. 17.

Where: Zuzi, 738 N. 5th Ave.; Club Congress, 311 E. Congress St., Fluxx Gallery, 414 E. 9th St., and Flycatcher, 360 E. 6th St.

Cost: One-time $2 charge for the Fringe Button; $10 a single ticket, $15 for two, $80 (in advance) to see all 17.

Now in its fifth year, the playpalooza attracts submissions from this country and beyond.

When: Thursday Jan. 14-23.

Cost: Individual tickets are $8-$10; season tickets are $125; closing night film and reception, $18.

Special Events: Opening Night at The Loft Cinema Jan.14; "Advanced Style" luncheon, Maya Palace fashion show and film, Friday, Jan. 15; "Body Scripting" workshop with Tamar Rogoff, Monday, Jan.18; closing night and wrap party on Jan. 23.

Zoppé Family Circus

When: Friday, Jan. 15-18

Where: Mercado San Agustin, located off I-10 and Congress.

Showtimes: 7 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday

Tickets: Tickets $15-37. Friday's ticket sales benefits the All Souls Procession.

About this event: This weekend the circus comes to town for its fourth year in the Old Pueblo. Staring Nino the Clown, this Italian family tradition dating back to 1842 features amazing feats and lots of audience participation. More information at zoppe.net
