Ten cool things to do in Tucson this weekend (Sept. 16-18)

Tucson's own Bob Log III, a musician whose made a career out of creating raucous blues while wearing a motorcycle helmet attached to a telephone receiver, is pulling out all the stops with a gig this Friday at 191 Toole.
Log is pure energy with a show that is both raunchy and vibrant.
The gig starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12-$15.

Explore some neat and funky sculptures, stained glass and paintings as Metal Arts Village, 3230 N. Dodge Blvd, holds its monthly open studio tour, this Friday.
Among the artists: Steel fabricator Everett Grondin, the metal artist behind DogLix Designs (seen in the photo above).
After looking around, grab a craft beer at Tucson Hop Shop in the village and sample goodies from the Tucson Fat Noodle food truck, which will be on-site.
The evening runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tap takeovers can be a hoot. A mix of tasty new beers and, more often than not, free stuff (stickers, glasses etc).
On Friday, San Diego's Ballast Point will hold court at Tap & Bottle, 403 N. Sixth Ave., in honor of its 20th anniversary.
The tasting room will have the following beers from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

2. Roots to Boots: Belgian Tripel Ale
3. Roots to Boots: Double India Pale Ale

That's why the book chain's location at 6230 E. Speedway is holding a free Post Apocalyptic Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Local vendors with themed art and gear will be on hand and the store will be screening films that play out various end times scenarios.
Not a bad way to spend your Saturday!

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, 2021 N. Kinney Road, is celebrating the opening of D.D. Bracy's "Departure and Return: The Monarch Butterfly as Metaphor" art exhibit on Saturday.
Bracy will be on hand to talk about the works. Mimosas also will be available at $5 a drink.
A lecture from Desert Museum conservation research scientist Sergio Avila will follow.

Show you know Jokers from Penguins from Riddlers at Heroes & Villains, 4533 E. Broadway, on National Batman Day, Saturday.
The comic book store will hold a Batman trivia contest with three qualifying rounds at 10:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and noon.
Winners will move on to the final round at 1 p.m.
The champion gets a Batman prize pack. Everyone who shows up will get a comic book.
Cosplayers from Justice League Arizona will be there to take photos with the kids.

Rincon Valley Farmers & Artisans Market, otherwise known as the big barn market way out east, is holding its 15th annual Roasted Chile Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The annual event will include fresh roasted chiles, a beer garden and live music by John Grant & The Guilty Bystanders.

Not just ANY abductee. Travis Walton, whose claim that he was abducted by aliens was documented in the 1993 film, "Fire in the Sky."
D.B. Sweeney played Walton in the movie, which took place in Northern Arizona.
Walton will be at the Screening Room, 127 E. Congress St., on Saturday for a Q&A session after the documentary, "Travis: The True Story of Travis Walton."
The film is part of the Arizona Underground Film Festival. It starts at 1 p.m. and tickets are $8 through Brown Paper Tickets.

If Spanish isn't your first language, you may not recognize musical superstar Marco Antonio Solis.
Solis' career spans more than 40 years. He's received countless awards for his works, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from Billboard Magazine earlier this year.
The seasoned performer is taking time out of his busy schedule to perform at Casino del Sol's AVA on Saturday.
The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50-$150 through the casino website.

On its latest swing through Tucson, Coheed and Cambria is bringing a repackaging of its 2015 album, "The Color Before the Sun" to the Rialto, complete will live cuts and recorded demos.
“You get to hear the progression of each song. It’s very naked; it’s almost like when the Beatles did ‘Let It Be’ and then did ‘Let It Be Naked’ later,” the band's Travis Stever told the Star about the demo recordings. “I’ve always been a fan of being able to experience the music at each stage.”
The band's Rialto show begins at 7 p.m. this Sunday. Tickets are $29-$37 through the Rialto.
