OK. So it isn't exactly the Autobahn in Germany. But you'll have some good fun while satisfying your need for speed at the Autobahn Indoor Speedway's grand opening.
The go kart location will celebrate its official launch with music and prizes. The activities start at 11 a.m. at Autobahn, 300 S. Toole Ave. 369-5720.

The UA-led OSIRIS-REx mission, which will travel to the asteroid Bennu to collect samples, takes off from Cape Canaveral this Thursday.
You can watch the launch from several spots in Tucson. Hotel Congress, 311 E. Congress St., has an entire day planned, including a live viewing at 4 p.m., followed by a Joe Pagac art display, a DJ and other space-related activities.
Borderlands Brewing Company, down the street from Congress at 119 E. Toole Ave., also has an afternoon of drinking and viewing in store. Their live viewing will be followed by a talk by Eric Christensen, director of the Catalina Sky Survey.
The University of Arizona will hold its own festivities on the UA mall. The main event will feature trivia, music and guest speakers. Those activities begin at 2 p.m.

Tubac Presidio State Park will hold a program on Friday examining the native and imported foods of colonial Spain.
The talk will feature information on the origins of the food, the nutritional and survival values. Oh, and there will be samples!
The talk begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.
Admission is $5 with discounts available. Tubac Presidio State Park is at 1 Burruel St in Tubac.

What would you have imbibed if you were on the RMS Titanic in its final hours? Bartenders at Casa Film Bar, 2905 E. Speedway, have some suggestions for you.
They'll be offering up some of their favorite brews as James Cameron's "Titanic" plays throughout the craft beer establishment. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Throw on your best pirate ensemble and head down to the Surly Wench, 424 N. Fourth Ave., for an evening of fire eating, bizarre magic and comedy with the Strange Family Circus. Escape acts and sideshow antics included!
Bisbee's sea shanty ensemble, the Frytown Toughs open the show. The evening will also include a costume contest.

The Loft Cinema is holding a 5-episode mini-marathon of the hit NBC series "Parks and Recreation" on the University of Arizona mall Friday night.
The evening, which begins at 9 p.m., will feature five of what the Loft is calling the show's best episodes.
Admission is free. Chairs and blankets are recommended, especially if the grass is still damp from the rain.

Downtown's Independent Distillery, 30 S. Arizona Ave., has survived its first year and will celebrate with the release of its very first gin.
In its initial run, Independent has opted to go with a 10 botanical gin, which is a more mixable gin with citrus and floral notes, that can be used in a variety of mixed drinks.

Need something kitschy for your breakfast nook? A painting that defies definition but might require an explanation? If so, you'll want to head to the Tales from the Trash VI art show at the Scratch Shack, 245 W. Speedway, this Saturday.
Curators of the show spend much of their free time hitting estate sales, swap meets and thrift stores, looking for the unique and bizarre.

Some of Tucson's best ice cream and gelato makers will go head-to-head this Saturday in the third annual Ice Cream Showdown at Maynards Market & Kitchen, 400 N. Toole Ave.
$10 will get ten tastings. Among the shops participating: BrushFire BBQ, The Cup Cafe, HUB, Isabella's and The Screamery. Part of the proceeds will go to Ben's Bells.
The evening event runs from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
