Old cowboy boots, reimagined
At Hope Forrest’s Catalina Foothills yard, an old pair of cowboy boots were turned into a cactus planter and a birdhouse.
Teapot
This teapot, picked up for a few bucks at an estate sale, makes a cute, rustic planter for succulents. It already came with a few cracks for drainage.
Old wheelbarrow
This was another estate-sale find — a battered wheelbarrow with a flat tire. I turned it into a planter after spray-painting the outside and drilling several holes in the bottom for proper drainage.
Water fountain
This tiered fountain makes an ideal container for a cascade of succulents and other plants. You'll see this and more gardening examples at the Pima County Master Gardeners' site at 4210 N. Campbell Ave.
Cracked chiminea
Marlene Leeper repurposed a cracked chiminea as a succulent planter. She sealed the crack before planting.
Medusa
Arlene Ehrenberger sent in this photo of "Medusa gone wild!"
