Second graders and best friends, Kate Valenzuela, 8, left, and Destiny Catton, 7, draw pictures before the start of school in the open central area at Mary Belle McCorkle Academy of Excellence K-8 School, 4455 South Mission Rd. The students are not separated by grade in the open area, all kids and interact with eachother and parents can stay with their children until the start of school.
