This undated photo provided by the Hall County Sheriff’s office shows Mark Alan Fyfe, 52, of Flowery Branch, Ga. Fyfe is accused of fatally shooting his older brother early Christmas morning.
Fyfe, 52, is being held without bond in the death of Alan Scott Fyfe, 54, the officials said in a statement.
Deputies were dispatched to a house on River Hill Drive after someone called 911 and hung up Wednesday morning, authorities said. They said Mark Fyfe answered the door and told investigators that someone else inside the house had made the call, the Associated Press reported.
Fyfe refused to open the door for investigators, authorities said. They said they found his brother lying unresponsive in the yard when they went to the back of the house.
Deputies called the Hall County SWAT team and took Mark Fyfe into custody after a negotiation. Alan Fyfe was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and was pronounced dead. Authorities haven't released the nature of his wounds.
In addition to murder, Mark Fyfe was charged with obstructing an officer and interfering with government property. Fyfe kicked the patrol vehicle's door off its track and damaged its window while he was being taken to the county jail, Sgt. Mark Miller said in an email.
One of the Fyfe brothers' sons, who was at the house, was taken in for questioning but hasn't been charged, sheriff's officials have said.
The case is being investigated by the department's Criminal Investigation Division.
Miller said he had no information to release Thursday on what led to the shooting.
A neighbor, Belinda Heard, was quoted by the Gainesville Times as saying that she was preparing her family's holiday dinner and heard the gunshots when she stepped onto her back porch.
"There's never been anything like this since I've been here," she said. "I thought it was fireworks in another subdivision."
