R. Jack Monroe Zeluff, MD passed away peacefully in Tucson on December 31, 2011. Born March 26, 1920 to Mary Ann and Samuel Zeluff, Jack attended Seligman High School, Arizona State Teachers College (ASU) and graduated from the University of Arizona in 1941. After graduating from Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia in 1946, Jack served in the US Army Medical Corps from 1946-1953, attaining the rank of Major. He was a proud member of the 8076th MASH during the Korean War, winning the Bronze Star. On January 19, 1946, Jack married Laura Ruth Weakly and began a successful life together for over 64 years. Ruth passed away in Tucson on May 14, 2010. After discharge from the Army in 1953, Jack and Ruth lived in Phoenix and Jack worked as a medical doctor specializing in anesthesia until retiring in 1988. They moved to Tucson in 2002. Jack was a past president of the AZ State Society of Anesthesia, and served on the Board of Directors of the AZ State Medical Association and Maricopa County Medical Society. He also served on the BOD at the Phoenix Country Club for nine years. Jack was a baseball letterman at the UA under the legendary JF McKale and played semi-pro baseball in southern California prior to going to medical school in 1943. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and considered the White Mountains his favorite place on earth. Survivors include sons, Bob (Jan), Gary (Katherine) and Jim (Carla). Grandchildren include: Jon, Grant, Chad and Samantha and great- grandchildren, Jon Donovan and Derek David. Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Madeline. Memorial Service in Phoenix at All Saints Episcopal Church for Ruth and Jack is pending. Cards and condolences are welcome at email rjmz4@earthlink.net.
