John Earl Strohmeyer

Predeceased by Betty, his loving wife of 45 years; son, John M.; brothers, Victor and Dewey; sister, Cecelia; infant great-grandson, Haiden. Survived by sister-in-law, Kathleen (Victor) Strohmeyer; son, Jim; daughter, Becky (John) Cutright; daughter-in-law, Paula (John) Strohmeyer; grandchildren, Eric (Kristy) Strohmeyer, Michael (Wendy) Strohmeyer, Katelyn (Aaron) Means, Jennifer (Bobby) Suba and Lauren (Daniel) Taylor; great- grandchildren, A.J. Hatfield, Samantha and Jonathan Strohmeyer, Evan Strohmeyer and Titus and Micah Suba. Born in Hollidaysburg, PA, John served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Great Britain during WWII, after the war, he and Betty married on January 13, 1946 and settled in Altoona, PA, where he worked in the blacksmith shop of the Pennsylvania Railroad. In January, 1957, the family moved to Tucson, seeking relief for Betty's asthma. John worked first at Silverbell Mine as a heavy equipment mechanic, and later at Pima Mine, New Pueblo and Tanner Construction companies, and Road Machinery Company, from which he retired. John enjoyed target shooting with friends "Buck" and Ron Eisenmann, and had a long time interest in civilian radio. He volunteered with Southern AZ Search and Rescue, helping with radio communications, and briefly taught a math class at an Adult Education program. He enjoyed a series of pet cats and a number of desert tortoises. He was a hard working family provider and will be remembered for his love of a good story, a strong cup of coffee, and a friend's handshake. Now at peace in Heaven, he is lovingly remembered and missed. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MMORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. in Tucson. Graveside Service will immediately follow the Viewing. Rev. James Howard officiating.
