Fred F. Harcleroad, Jr.
Died June 10, 2012, age 93. He was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. His BA and Masters Degrees were earned at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado and his PhD is from Stanford University. A professor emeritus of higher education at the University of Arizona and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education, Fred was the founding president of California State University, East Bay, president of the American College Testing Program (ACT) and consultant to the Chancellors of Pima Community College for 20 years. Nationally recognized, he was a consultant into his 90's for state systems, federal agencies, associations and Universities/Colleges and the author of many books, book chapters and articles. In all of his professional work, Fred's decisions were always based on "will this be better for our students?" Honors included life time membership in Phi Delta Kappa and regular listings in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. Fred was a member of Rotary for 52 years. He loved sports, was an avid Wildcat fan, member of Oro Valley Country Club, golfing for 26 years, excellent ballroom dancer and bridge player and member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. His family includes wife, Moyne married 69 years; daughter, Patti Gregory; grandson, Jared (Vanessa) of San Jose, CA; son, Douglass (Jeanne); granddaughter, Carla (Peter) Bowers; grandson, Adam (Megan); great-granddaughters, Mia and Elyn of Eugene, Creswell and Forest Grove, Oregon. As requested, Services will be private with interment at the Memorial Gardens at St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
