Kathleen D. Marner
Several days back, my Lady passed on. I shall attempt to tell her story in simple form. Born in Chicago to Patrick and Frances Mulvihill on 2 April 1926, she was the youngest of three children, Mary Frances, Edmund, and Kathleen Dolores (a Good-Friday girl). She enjoyed a fine education in Chicago's Catholic School system - Mother of Sorrows, Providence High School, on through De Paul University (in the halcyon days of basketball). Bumbling about, in a post-war daze, I found her and locked on. After my stretch in the VA hospital system, we married on 25 August 1951. God blessed us with eight children and the wonderful life that derived. First came Mary (Tom), almost born in the car---father was untrained. A delay ensued, then came Patty (David), Peggy (Gordon), Eileen (Steve), Ginny (Mark), Jim (Jen), Michael (Erin) and KK (Phil). After an "I'll never be a grandmother interlude", eighteen grandchildren arrived. Now, I'll hand-off to an objective friend: Kathleen was the Marner core, the center of love, family and of course, their house parties. She was an amazing worker-bee and was modest to a fault...she lived with a dash of daring in those beautiful, blue Irish eyes. We remember the consistent smile, a happy heart and the loyal following of the beautiful, elegant leader.
That's my Lady Love. Charles F. Marner '24
