Sarah Emma Hayes

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Louis Hayes; her eight brothers and sisters and son, Christopher Allen Hayes. She is survived by sister, Mae Francis Ford of Ridgeland, S.C.; son, John Richard Hayes (Millicent) of Patterson, CA; daughter, Catherine Clark (Brian) and sons, Paul Francis and Thomas Neil Hayes (Suzanne) of Tucson, AZ; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sarah was born in Elberton, GA on August 26, 1920. She was raised in Greenville, SC and worked for several years with Southern Bell Telephone Co. She married John in June 1948, and supported his career as an Air Force Officer's wife by managing her household and family. She was a loving and kind mother to her five children and their spouses and her grandchildren. Her interests included gardening, bird watching and reading. She will be most remembered by her kind, caring and loving nature and beautiful blue eyes. She enjoyed family camping trips, children's sporting events and travelling with her husband during their retirement. She selflessly cooked, cleaned and managed her large family, always with love. She encouraged her children's education and hard work to achieve a better life and she celebrated their successes. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her Memorial will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. Interment at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes.
