Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Slocum
age 66, passed away peacefully at Casa de La Luz inpatient hospice on January 16, 2014 after courageous fight with cancer. She was surrounded with family and friends and now has gone to join her son John J. Cicala II; parents Paul and Ann Hult; and husband, M.L. Joe Slocum. Betsy was born in Doylestown, PA, October 4, 1947. Her family moved to Tucson, AZ when she was very young where she attended Sunnyside High School, the University of Arizona, and Pima Community College. Betsy is survived by brother, David Hult (Viki); sister, Laurie Hult; son, Paul D. Cicala; daughter, Mary Ann Cicala (Rebecca); eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and countless loving and loyal friends. She was loved by all those who knew her and always listened from her heart, which some say, was as "big as the ocean." She will be remembered for being a kind, gentle soul, with an easy-going sense of humor. She has left an indelible mark in each of our hearts! Our loss is heaven's gain and to quote a friend, "she just got to the party a little ahead of us." Her everlasting legacy will carry on through all who had the privilege of knowing her. She truly adored the border Southwest, and Betsy treasured being able to spend her childhood and her last days in her beloved Sonoran Desert. A Celebration of her Life will be held at the amphitheatre of Madera Canyon, located at the 3rd parking lot at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 with a reception to follow. Her remains will be scattered at the family tree in Madera Canyon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Betsy's name to your favorite charity.
